Meet Mrs. Grace Cheng, CEO

From a homemaker to a multi-role businesswoman

“I feel like I am inseparable from fashion, my parents ran a textile factory, and my husband is an exceptional businessman in the tailoring industry and a successor of a bespoke company with 60 years of history.”

Actually, I never thought I would become a businesswoman who owns a bespoke couture store in Hong Kong because I was only a homemaker at the beginning of my marriage. Following my husband was almost the only event I had on my schedule. On one early day, I am getting ready for a party, and I started to miss those days when I worked from 9 to 5, devoting myself fully to my career. Then, there I was, standing in the crowd facing friends and clients at a party, and I couldn’t help but think, ‘is this the only true value of women?’ No, we are more than just a “TaiTai.” and can support our husbands with our professionalism. Then, I became the woman behind my husband, and I worked for his company—William Cheng & Son.

At first, tailoring didn’t really mean much to me. When I first arrived in Hong Kong, my only fashion icon were those luxury brands. However, after working closely with William Cheng & Son’s customers, including business leaders and politicians who truly enjoyed the bespoke service, I started to realize how bespoke clothes express one’s power by showing their distinct and unique characteristics.

Miuccia Prada, one of my favorite designers, once said, ‘What you wear is how you present yourself to the world. Fashion is the instant language.’

While I entirely agree with her, I, at the same time, believe that there is something more–we should dress up our lives. Namely, only the right clothes that fit your body and match your character can bring out who you truly are and reflect your core values, but not the mainstream trends or the luxury brands. As soon as I realized the importance of bespoke service, I wished to tailor-make my own clothes to express myself at work as well.

At this moment, I discovered one flaw in the existing tailoring industry—Hong Kong has almost no bespoke couture stores that serve women exclusively.

To remedy the market and the needs of women, I decided to take the initiative to launch a bespoke couture store that exclusively serves ladies in Hong Kong—GS Ladies Collection. Regardless of the difficulties GS Ladies Collection to gaining a firm foothold during the pandemic, and regardless of the glass sailings women faces in their work field, GS Ladies Collection will always be the strongest backing for ladies, like you, by fabricating the finest and trendiest fashion with our bespoke couture journey.

Tailoring is no sunset industry, nor are women just husband-followers. With GS Ladies Collection, you can dress up your life to the fullest” by showcasing your soft power.
